Panel Discussion | The Future of AI & Cybersecurity

What does the future look like at the intersection of Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity? ECU Sri Lanka students recently had the opportunity to engage with an expert panel of distinguished academics and industry leaders during the discussion titled “The Future of AI & Cybersecurity.” The panel featured Professor Paul Haskell-Dowland (Professor of Cyber Security Practice & Associate Dean – International & Strategic Partnerships), Nirosh Ananda (Chief Information Security Officer, Sri Lanka CERT), Chamil Jeewantha (Co-Founder & Director, VinuLabs Pvt Ltd), Roy Ian (Principal Data Scientist & Head of Data Science, PickMe), and David Matthews (Pro Vice-Chancellor – Sri Lanka). Moderated by Madawa Senevirathna, Program Convener – Computing and Security, the session explored emerging cyber threats, AI-driven security solutions, ethical considerations, and the evolving role of cybersecurity professionals in an increasingly intelligent and automated digital landscape. Students gained valuable insights into industry expectations, future skill demands, and practical strategies to prepare for careers in AI-enabled cybersecurity environments.
