Celebrating Team ECU’s Success at the Sysco LABS Guiding Leadership and Outreach (GLO) Program Phase 2

21 Jul 2026

We are proud to celebrate Team ECU, who were recognised as one of four winning teams among nine university teams at the Sysco LABS GLO Phase 2 Closing Ceremony, held on 20 July at Courtyard by Marriott. Their outstanding project, Bright Path, was awarded a Rs. 100,000 sponsorship to support its next phase.

Bright Path is a student-led, self-funded initiative that provides supplementary educational support and promotes environmental awareness for the residents of Sewana Disabled Home, reflecting a strong commitment to leadership, sustainability, and community impact.

Congratulations to our exceptional student team: Charith Mendis, Julian Mendis, Lehan Ranasinghe, Melaka Perera, Kawinya Dahnayake, and Kavinhara Fernando, for this well-deserved achievement and for representing ECU with excellence.

A special thank you to Anushka Samarasinghe from Sysco LABS for his continued guidance throughout this program, and to Sysco LABS and Global Learning Labs for creating opportunities that empower students to drive meaningful change through innovation and collaboration.

Our sincere appreciation also goes to Vinuji Karunaratne, WIL and Careers Coordinator, for coordinating this program for ECU, and to David Matthews, Pro Vice-Chancellor; Dr. Sajani Dias, Dean, Academic Programs; and Nishanthi Wegodapola, Assistant Manager – Learning and Support, for their continued support and encouragement.

Congratulations once again, Team ECU! We look forward to seeing the project Bright Path continue to make a lasting impact.
