Edith Cowan University Sri Lanka successfully hosted a Multi-Religious Blessing Ceremony on 6 July 2026, bringing together students, staff, management, and religious leaders in a meaningful celebration of faith, unity, and cultural appreciation.
The day’s proceedings began with a Catholic Holy Mass, followed by a Hindu Blessing Ceremony and an Islamic Blessing Ceremony, where prayers and blessings were offered for the continued success, wellbeing, and prosperity of the University, its students, staff, leadership, and the wider ECU community.
The celebrations concluded with a Buddhist Pirith Chanting Ceremony, creating a peaceful and reflective atmosphere as blessings were invoked for the University’s continued growth and future. The ceremony reaffirmed ECU Sri Lanka’s commitment to fostering an environment built on respect, compassion, and harmony among people from all backgrounds.
A significant highlight of the event was the enthusiastic participation of students and staff, who came together not only to take part in the religious observances but also to contribute generously through a donation drive. Essential items were donated as offerings to the Buddhist clergy, reflecting the University’s spirit of compassion, gratitude, and community service. The overwhelming support demonstrated by the ECU Sri Lanka community showcased the values of generosity and collective responsibility that are deeply embedded within the University’s culture.
Beyond the ceremonies themselves, the event provided an opportunity for members of the University community to learn about and appreciate Sri Lanka’s rich religious and cultural diversity. Students from different faiths attended the ceremonies, fostering greater understanding, respect, and meaningful interactions across cultures.
As the first international university in Sri Lanka, Edith Cowan University Sri Lanka remains committed to embracing the nation’s multicultural heritage while creating an inclusive environment where every individual feels welcomed and valued.
