ECU Sri Lanka recently hosted an engaging Guest Talk Session on Artificial Intelligence for students enrolled in the Artificial Intelligence unit.
The session was conducted by Dr. Lahiru Ariyasinghe, Head of CEG – Data Engineering & Data Science at Axonect, on the topic “Small Models, Big Impact: Why SLMs Are Powering the Next Wave of Enterprise AI.”
Students gained valuable insights into the evolving role of Small Language Models (SLMs) in enterprise environments, exploring their advantages in cost, efficiency, privacy, deployment, and domain-specific applications. The session also highlighted hybrid AI strategies that combine the strengths of both SLMs and Large Language Models (LLMs) to build scalable and secure AI solutions.
Through real-world examples and industry perspectives, students strengthened their understanding of modern AI applications, Data Engineering, and Data Science, while gaining exposure to emerging technologies and current industry trends.
