Edith Cowan University Sri Lanka marked World Mental Health Day 2026 with an engaging awareness session for Nursing, Biomedical Science, and Psychology students, led by Ms. Dinithi Samarakoon, Programme Convenor – Nursing.
The session highlighted the importance of mental wellbeing, understanding common mental health challenges, reducing stigma, and promoting collaborative approaches to care within healthcare and the wider community.
A special highlight was the presentation of two scholarships to the highest-performing students in the Mental Health Nursing unit of the Bachelor of Nursing Studies programme at ECU Sri Lanka. These scholarships will support their participation in a professional mental health conference, further strengthening their knowledge and professional development in this important field.
Congratulations to our scholarship recipients, Gehancie De Silva and Evangeline Warnakulasuriya, on this achievement.
We sincerely thank our Acting General Manager, Matt Stanton, and Dean of Academic Programmes, Dr. Sajani Dias, for supporting this initiative and recognising academic excellence among our students.
We also acknowledge the valuable contributions of Ms. Supeshala Kothalawala, Programme Convenor – Biomedical Science; Ms. Sunali Fernando, Programme Convenor – Psychology; and our academic colleagues Nipuni Hennadige, Anusha Kanagasundaram, Dulani Morawaka, Soumya Jeyachandirun, Dinara Perera, and Senuri Jayasekara, along with the professional staff who supported the event and contributed to its success.
