Edith Cowan University (ECU) Sri Lanka proudly celebrated the achievements of its 2026 graduating class on 21 August, as students came together for a memorable graduation ceremony marking the culmination of years of dedication, hard work and academic achievement.
The evening ceremony brought together ECU bachelor’s degree graduates, their families, academics, university leadership and distinguished guests to celebrate a significant milestone in the students’ lives. For the graduates, the occasion represented the culmination of their university experience and the beginning of a new journey filled with opportunities to learn, lead and make an impact.
The ceremony was honoured by the presence of His Excellency Matthew Duckworth, Australian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, as Chief Guest, alongside ECU Chancellor Gaye McMath, Vice-Chancellor Professor Clare Pollock and Pro Vice-Chancellor David Matthews.
The presence of ECU’s senior leadership and distinguished guests made the occasion especially meaningful as the graduating class celebrated their achievements and looked ahead to the future.
Academic excellence was an important part of the celebrations, with outstanding students recognized through the presentation of Gold, Silver and Bronze medals. These awards celebrated graduates who demonstrated exceptional commitment, academic performance and dedication throughout their university journey.
A particularly proud moment of the ceremony was the recognition of Vinuji Karunaratne as the Valedictorian of the graduating class. Representing her fellow graduates, Vinuji’s achievement reflected the dedication and excellence of the Class of 2026 and provided a fitting representation of the graduating cohort.
The ceremony was filled with moments of reflection, pride and celebration as graduates looked back on the experiences that shaped their university lives, the challenges they overcame, the friendships they formed, the knowledge they gained and the people who supported them along the way.
The graduation also marked an exciting new chapter for ECU Sri Lanka with the launch of the university’s new “Go Further” commercial and tagline. The launch was particularly meaningful as it took place in front of the very students who were about to begin their next chapter beyond university.
“Go Further” captures the spirit of the ECU experience, encouraging students to take the next step, pursue new possibilities and continue moving forward beyond the boundaries of what they thought was possible.
The celebrations reached a joyful conclusion as graduates proudly threw their caps into the air, celebrating not only the completion of their degrees but also the exciting possibilities that await them.
For the ECU Class of 2026, the graduation ceremony marked the end of their university chapter, but it was also the beginning of something much bigger. As they step into their careers, further studies and new opportunities, ECU Sri Lanka proudly sends its graduates forward with one message: Your journey does not stop here. Go Further.
